Reports and search
Search and the command palette
Find clients, requests and files with ⌘K or Ctrl+K, and see past activity.
Last updated · Facts checked
Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows to open the command palette from any page of GarnerDocs. Type a few letters to find a client, request or document, then press Enter to open it.
Open the palette
- Press ⌘K or Ctrl+K. Press it again to close the palette.
- Or click the Search clients, requests… field in the header. If you start typing there, your search carries on in the palette.
- On a phone, tap the search icon in the header. The palette opens full screen, and Cancel closes it.
What it searches
Results appear as you type, in up to four groups, with at most five results in each:
| Group | Matches | Opens |
|---|---|---|
| Clients | The client's name, contact name or email. Archived clients are listed last and marked "Archived". | The client's page |
| Requests | The request's title or the client's name. The most recently updated come first, with the client and status underneath. | The request |
| Documents | The names of the files clients uploaded. Only the current version of each file is searched, not files it replaced. | The request the file belongs to |
| Actions | New request, Add client, Invite member and Go to settings, filtered by what you type. | That page |
Before you type anything, the palette shows only the actions. You only see the actions your role allows: for example, Invite member appears only for people who can manage the team.
A search matches any part of a name, so "smith" finds "Smith & Co" and "Jane Smithson". If nothing matches, you'll see "No results for" and what you typed.
Move with the keyboard
- ↑ and ↓ move through the results, across all the groups. Going past the last result takes you back to the first.
- ↵ (Enter) opens the highlighted result.
- Esc closes the palette.
Find something that happened earlier
The palette finds things, not events. To see what happened and when, open the Activity page: select View all under Recent Activity on the Overview, or View all activity in the notifications menu.
The Activity page lists everything in your workspace, newest first and grouped by day. Narrow it with the two menus at the top:
- All clients: pick one client.
- All activity: pick a type, such as Uploads, Approvals & replacements, Reminders, Requests, Client notes, Clients, Team or Workflows.
Select Clear filters to see everything again. Older entries load as you scroll, or with Load more.
Good to know
- Searches are limited to your own workspace.
- If the palette says "Search is unavailable. Try again in a moment.", wait a few seconds and type again.
