Our take
If you want one system for your whole firm, TaxDome is the better choice. If you only need documents in from clients, without asking them to log in, GarnerDocs is simpler to set up and to use.

How automatic reminders workYour team
Growth and Pro have no limit on team members. Assign each request to someone.
Invite your teamTaxDome is practice management for accounting, tax and bookkeeping firms. It puts a CRM, workflow and pipelines, a branded client portal and app, e-signatures, organizers, proposals, invoices and payments in one system. If you want one place to run the whole firm, that's what it's for.
GarnerDocs does one part of that job. You send a client a checklist of the documents you need, reminders chase what's missing, and you review what arrives. There's no CRM, billing or workflow for your team's own work, so there's also nothing to set up beyond your first template.
If you're choosing between the two, the question is how much of your firm you want in one tool.
TaxDome clients usually have an account: you send an invitation, they create a password, and they log in to the portal or the app to see their to-do list. For a client request, you can turn off "Require login", so your client answers in the browser without signing in.
In GarnerDocs, every client works that way. Your client opens a private link, sees a checklist of the documents you asked for, and can upload some today and the rest next week, from a phone or a computer. You can add a 6-digit PIN that you give your client yourself. See what your clients see.
If your clients already log in to a portal happily, TaxDome's is the richer one. If some of them never will, a link is easier.
TaxDome's pricing page on 21 October 2026, in USD, per user a year on a one-year plan: Essentials $800 (one user only), Pro $1,000 and Business $1,200. With a three-year commitment they're $700, $900 and $1,100. All plans are billed upfront.
GarnerDocs is priced per firm, not per user. It's billed monthly or yearly in USD, and a year costs ten months. Starter is $39 a month ($390 a year) for 20 active requests and one team member. Growth is $99 for 100, and Pro is $199 for 300, both with no limit on team members.
TaxDome's price covers far more than document collection. Compare the two on what you'd actually use.
If several of these matter to you, TaxDome is likely the better choice.
This makes sense if you use a suite only to collect documents, or if your clients won't use its portal. There's nothing to import. Let open requests finish where they are, and send new ones from GarnerDocs.
List the documents from each request you send as a template. Facts that fit on one line can be short answers.
One at a time, or from a spreadsheet.
Create a request for each client and send it. The reminders take it from there.

Only if document collection is all you use TaxDome for. GarnerDocs has no CRM, pipelines, invoicing, e-signatures, client app or tax software integrations. If you rely on those, keep TaxDome.
Not with GarnerDocs: every request is a private link, and you can add a PIN. TaxDome clients usually log in to its portal or app; TaxDome lets you turn off the login for a client request so they can respond in the browser.
GarnerDocs deletes a completed request's files when your retention period of 30, 90, 180 or 365 days ends, after emailing you 14 and 3 days before, so you keep records in your own system. TaxDome includes unlimited document storage, so it can be that system.
