Requests
Complete or cancel a request
When to complete a request and when to cancel it, and what each one changes.
Last updated · Facts checked
Mark a request complete when you have what you need. Cancel it when you no longer need the documents. Both are in the request's ⋯ menu, and both stop the reminders.
Mark a request complete
Choose Mark complete from the ⋯ menu. If documents are still missing or files are waiting for review, GarnerDocs asks you to confirm first.
The request moves to Completed, and its pending reminders are cancelled. Your client isn't emailed when you mark it complete yourself.
Automatic completion
When you approve the last document on an active request, it completes itself. Your client is emailed that everything was received, and any All documents approved workflows run. Collection completed workflows run only when someone on your team selects Mark complete.
Cancel a request
Choose Cancel request from the ⋯ menu, or from the request's row on the Requests page, then confirm with Cancel request. The request leaves your client's page, its own link stops working and no more reminders go to your client. Files already uploaded stay on the request until an owner or admin deletes them with Delete files now.
The difference
| What changes | Complete | Cancel |
|---|---|---|
| Reminders | Stop | Stop |
| Your client's access | Stays on their client link page for up to 90 days so they can see what they sent, but they can't upload. Leaves earlier if the files are deleted. | Leaves their page straight away. |
| Files | Kept for your retention period, counted from the day it's completed, then deleted. | Stay on the request until an owner or admin deletes them. Your retention period doesn't apply. |
| Status | Completed | Cancelled |
Both free up one of your plan's active requests. Neither can be undone, and neither request can be edited afterwards. To ask for the same documents again, duplicate the request.
Good to know
- Only active requests can be completed or cancelled. A draft you don't need can be deleted instead with Delete draft, by an owner or admin.
- The request's assignee, or your owners and admins if nobody is assigned, are notified when a request is completed. Whoever marked it complete isn't.
- Download anything you need to keep before the retention period ends. See How long files are kept.
- Archiving a client cancels their active requests, so those files stay too until someone deletes them. Delete a request's files early
- What each status means: request statuses.
