Due dates and overdue requests

The default due date, how due and overdue requests are labelled, and how the due date drives reminders.

Last updated · Facts checked

Every request you send has a due date. It sets the request's countdown, its Due Soon and Overdue statuses, and the reminder that goes out before the deadline.

The default due date

New requests start with a due date a set number of days ahead. Change it in Settings → Workspace under Default due date: 7, 14, 21 or 30 days after sending. The default is 14 days.

You can pick a different date on any request. It has to be tomorrow or later. A draft can be saved without a due date, but you need one to send it.

To move the date on a request you've sent, open it and choose Edit details from the ⋯ menu. An overdue request keeps its current date until you change it.

How due dates are shown

Under each request's due date, on the Requests page and the request page, you'll see a short label:

  • "In 6 days" in grey.
  • "In 3 days", "Tomorrow" or "Due today" in amber, once the request is due within three days.
  • "5 days overdue" in red, once the date has passed.
  • "Completed 13 Oct" in green, once the request is complete.

The request's status badge changes too, to Due Soon and then Overdue. See request statuses for the exact rules. The Requests page has Due soon and Overdue tabs, and Due this week, Due this month and Past due filters.

Due dates and reminders

Your reminder schedule has steps that count from when you sent the request and steps that count back from the due date. The default schedule sends the invitation, then reminders 3 and 7 days after sending, and a final reminder 3 days before the due date. Reminders go out at 10:00 in your workspace's time zone.

The reminder before the due date is sent as the final reminder. A reminder counted from sending is skipped if it would land after the due date.

If you change the due date, the reminders still to come are rescheduled. Ones already sent or skipped stay as they are.

After the due date

An overdue request stays open: the client can still upload with the same link. No automatic reminders go out after the due date, so use Send reminder on the request page to chase it.
