Requests
Reset a client link
Generate a new link when the old one went to the wrong place. The old link stops working at once.
Last updated · Facts checked
Open the client and select Generate new in the Client link card. The old link stops working straight away, and you send your client the new one.
A request sent with its own link has a separate link, which you replace from the request instead. See Replace one request's link below.
When to reset a link
- You sent a request to the wrong email address.
- Your client forwarded an email or shared the link with someone who shouldn't have it.
- The link ended up somewhere public, such as a shared document or a group chat.
Sent to the wrong address?
Fix your client's email first: open the client and select Edit. Then generate the new link, so the next emails go to the right place.
Steps
-
Open the client
Find them on the Clients page and open them.
-
Choose Generate new
In the Client link card, select Generate new next to Link.
-
Confirm
Read Generate a new client link? and select Generate new link. You'll see "New client link generated".
-
Send the new link
Select Copy and send the new link to your client yourself. GarnerDocs doesn't email it for you.
What happens next
- The old client link stops working at once, for every request on it. Anyone who opens it sees "This link isn't valid anymore".
- Links in emails you've already sent stop working too. Emails and reminders sent from now on carry the new link.
- Each request's own link isn't affected.
- Files already uploaded, notes and history stay as they are. The client's activity records that the link was replaced.
Replace one request's link
Every request has its own link too, which opens that request only. To replace it, open the request, choose Generate new link from the ⋯ menu (More actions for this request) and confirm. You'll see "New request link generated".
- A request on the client link: the old request link stops working, and your client can still open the request from their client link. Nothing is emailed. The new request link asks for the client link's PIN, if it has one.
- A request sent with its own link: your client needs the new link to upload anything else. On an active request, Email the new link to your client's contact is ticked. Leave it ticked to send them the request email again, or untick it and use Copy request link to send it yourself.
Replacing a request's link doesn't change the client link.
Good to know
- You can generate a new request link on drafts and active requests. Completed and cancelled requests have no link to reset.
- Archived clients have no client link.
- A new link keeps the same PIN. If the PIN may have gone astray too, generate a new PIN as well. Protect a request with a PIN
