Requests
Send files to your client
Attach files to a request. Your client downloads them from the same link, with no email attachments.
Last updated · Facts checked
Attach files to a request, such as a finished report, an engagement letter or a closing pack, and your client downloads them from the same private link they use to upload. They don't need an account, and nothing is attached to an email.
Add files
-
Open the request
Open a request you've sent. It can still be collecting, or completed.
-
Add files
Under Files for your client, select Add files and choose one or more files. A bar shows each file's progress.
-
Email your client
When the files are added, GarnerDocs asks Email {client} that files are ready? It's ticked. Add a message if you like, then select Send email. Untick it and select Done to tell them yourself.
You can share PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, JPG, PNG and ZIP files, up to 25 MB each and 20 files per request. GarnerDocs checks each file's content, so a renamed file of another type is refused.
What your client sees
The email lists the file names and has a Download files button that opens their link. The files are never attached to the email. If their link has a PIN, the email says they need it, and the files stay behind the PIN.
On the request's page, a section called From followed by your firm's name sits above the checklist, with a download button next to each file. On a completed request it's shown with the "All documents received" message.
The same files are listed on your client's client link page, with the request each one belongs to. A request sent with its own link isn't on that page, so its files are only on the request.
If you share more files within 10 minutes of the last email, no new email is sent. That one email covers every file, and your client sees the new ones on the same page.
Know when it's downloaded
Each file shows who shared it and when, and either Not downloaded yet or the day your client first downloaded it. The first download also appears in the request's activity, and the person who shared the file gets a notification under the bell.
Remove a file
Select the bin next to a file and confirm. Your client can't download it any more, and the file is deleted.
When you can share
While the link works
You can add files once a request is sent, and after it's completed, for as long as the request's link works: 90 days after completion, or until the retention period deletes the files if that comes first. Drafts and cancelled requests can't have files.
Shared files follow your retention period. When the files are deleted, each one shows Deleted after the retention period. They're also in Download all files, in a folder called _shared with client.
